Apple Cake with Caramel Sauce 
Recommended varieties: Zestar, E2, Haralson, Cortland, Ace  
 
Cake Ingredients:
 1 cup  Sugar
 1/4 cup  Butter
 1  Egg, beaten
 1 cup  Sifted flour
 1/2 tsp  Cinnamon
 1 tsp  Baking soda
 3 cups  Apples, peeled and sliced
 3/4 cup  Chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Caramel Sauce Ingredients: 
 1/2 cup  Butter
 1/2 cup  Cream
 1/2 cup  White sugar
 1/2 cup  Brown sugar
 1/2 tsp  Vanilla

Directions: 
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream sugar and butter. Mix in remaining cake ingredients. Bake in a greased and floured 9x9 pan for 35 minutes or until done. 
2. To make caramel sauce, combine all ingredients except vanilla in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Serve cake with sauce while still warm.
